Lampard Vachell School, Barnstaple
Special School
The practice has begun to undertake a number of County projects including schools over the last year. Construction work on the expansion of the original school at Barnstaple is now well advanced. The project involves alterations to the interior rooms and to extended and add new rooms and a corridor to the front of the school, allowing extra space and circulation. The extended school is due to be completed in July 2004.
73 Queens Road, Exeter
Situated directly parallel to Alphington Road, 73 Queens Road is going to be undertaking a rear contempary extension due to start in Summer 2004. The project involves the removable of the existing rear extension and upgrading of another to provide a new light and spacious kitchen, dining room, utility/garden room and a family room. Work is currently out to tender and will begin to commence on site shortly.

PUBLICATIONS
The swimming pool for the guide Dogs for the Blind Association was the first purpose designed pool for the visually impaired to be constructed in the UK, was subject to both an article in the Architects Journal (shown left,
click for a larger, complete, readable version - contains about 300KB of graphics) and a review on BBC Radio 4's In Touch programme as well as being featured on local TV and Radio.
AWARDS
The Practice recently received two awards for its refurbishment of 20 Bridge St, Taunton for the Pizza Express Italian Restaurant group, The Taunton and District Civic Society's design award and a commendation in the Somerset Building Preservation Trust Awards. This comes in addition to David Burley's previous involvement in projects at Wellington School, Somerset and Langton Long, Nr Blandford Forum, both of which received Civic Trust commendations.
