Up and down

Left Auxonne 10:55, drove to Marlens, near Faverge, south of Lake Annecy. Suddenly moved from fairly level countryside to much more hilly, mountainous even! Over Col de Ceignes, through one very long tunnel and several more, and long double viaduct, then on past small mountain town of Bellgarde. All very impressive.

Interesting travelling in autumn rather than the more usual holiday season – the colours of the trees and grasses are beautiful.

Started cool and cloudy, but gradually improved. Temp up to 23 degrees on journey, 19 on arrival. Had to use air conditioning during latter part of journey.

Used section of ordinary road on last bit to Annecy, much rougher and slower than motorway. Very difficult in Annecy, very busy, and between Deb and satnav giving intructions (both correct) I missed two possibilities, and ended up on entirely the wrong road, going out of Annecy in the wrong direction. Managed to get off onto a roundabout and go back and then I managed to follow both Deb and Emily to campsite. 275 miles.

Took ages to clear conurbation south of Annecy. I had thought of visiting the town, but now doubtful it would be a pleasure.
