Beside the mud

Cold and dull, mooched around much of morning, then went off in hire-car to St Valery sur Somme, on the bay of the Somme river.

Used to be beside the sea centuries ago, but the bay has silted up and is now used partly for grazing sheep, partly as tidal mudflats for wildlife.

Picturesque little town, used to be fishing port, facing another similar across the bay but no longer. Port for leisure and base for Eco-tourism now. Pleasant walk along side of channel, then up to old previously fortified town, very old, interesting, good views. Rather touristy, with shops to match, but not too busy.

Weather better as day progressed, but still cold. Didn’t like car much, underpowered with skittish steering. Lots of toys, but couldn’t make sense of lots of them as instruction booklet missing.

Caravan battery holding up so far. Realised that will need to disconnect before charging and spanners in car! Bought cheap set from Intermarche.

Weather looks to be poor next couple of days 🙁
